The journals were written by my grandfather, Edwin V. Warren, in 1903 and 1904 when he traveled to Alaska to work in the world famous Treadwell Gold Mines.

The journals were written entirely in his own hand, sometimes on a rocking steamship or in the Treadwell Mines or cruising down the Gastineau Channel.

Edwin Warren
The journals sat in a drawer for over 100 years. Edwin gave them to his daughter, Margaret, on his 90th. birthday in 1971.


Edwin made two trips to Alaska, the first was in 1903 and the second in 1904. The trips were to do research on the birds of Alaska and to earn money for his college tuition at Stanford University.
